Associate Liaison Officer

About the role

The Associate Liaison Officer supports the Senior Political Affairs Officer within the Socio‑Economic and Political Reintegration Section of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC). Based in Bogota, the role focuses on liaising with Colombian government entities, civil society, UN agencies and other multilateral partners to advance conflict prevention, mediation and peace‑building initiatives, especially around community, economic and social reintegration.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, select and analyse information from communications, publications and the press on topics relevant to reintegration and political developments.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of political events, with special attention to gender, indigenous peoples, minors and persons with disabilities.
• Provide timely inputs and advice on reintegration issues to senior officials and field colleagues.
• Monitor national and regional political trends and advise UNVMC components and partner UN agencies.
• Promote strategic partnerships and coordinate with UNCT, other international organisations and governments.
• Track actions of intergovernmental groups, NGOs and UN bodies; participate in fact‑finding missions.
• Support databases that monitor implementation progress of reintegration plans.
• Prepare meetings for senior management with host‑country officials and ensure compliance with UNVMC policies, code of conduct and gender‑sensitive approaches.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of Colombian political context and reintegration processes.
• Ability to analyse complex information and produce concise briefings.
• Experience working with government agencies, civil‑society organisations and UN entities.
• Commitment to gender equality and inclusion of vulnerable groups.
• Excellent communication and networking skills at working‑level contacts.
