Controller / Finance Operations Lead (Remote)

About the role

Higher Options is seeking a remote Controller / Finance Operations Lead to support the financial and accounting operations of a growing U.S.-based group of hospitality and events brands. The role combines senior accounting responsibilities with strategic financial analysis to ensure accurate reporting across multiple entities.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Online.
• Review, classify, and reconcile transactions, ensuring correct impact on income statements and balance sheets.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements for multiple entities.
• Analyze month‑over‑month results, flagging unusual fluctuations and inconsistencies.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes with accuracy and timeliness.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll review across entities.
• Monitor cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, inventory, COGS, and fixed‑asset records.
• Support tax compliance, audit readiness, and coordination with external accountants.
• Improve accounting workflows, documentation, and standard operating procedures.
• Partner with founders and leadership to provide clear financial insight.

Required profile

• Strong, hands‑on experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Excellent understanding of financial statements and the relationship between P&L, balance sheet, and underlying transactions.
• Experience with multi‑entity accounting, reconciliations, and month‑end close.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, remote environment.
• Clear written and verbal English communication.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
• CPA or equivalent certification (preferred).
