Safeguards Manager

About the role

The Safeguards Manager will lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the Seed Fund’s Environmental & Social Management System (ESMS). Reporting to the Seed Fund Delivery Team, the role ensures that all funded activities avoid or mitigate adverse environmental and social impacts while enhancing benefits for local communities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain ESMS policies, standards, procedures, and guidance documents.
• Implement and oversee a grievance redress mechanism for project stakeholders.
• Provide capacity‑building support to partners, NGOs, Indigenous peoples, and local communities on ESMS compliance.
• Monitor and assess environmental and social risks across Seed Fund projects in multiple countries.
• Prepare regular compliance reports and advise senior management on safeguard issues.
• Coordinate with the Seed Fund Delivery Team to integrate safeguard considerations into project design and financing.

Required profile

• Fluency in French is mandatory.
• Proven experience designing and managing environmental and social safeguard systems, preferably in biodiversity or climate‑related projects.
• Strong understanding of high‑biodiversity and high‑carbon ecosystems such as forests, mangroves, oceans, and peatlands.
• Ability to work across diverse geographic locations (e.g., United States, Kenya, South Africa, Madagascar, Peru, Colombia).
