Information Systems Officer (UNVMC)

About the role

The Information Systems Officer will join the Chief Service Manager team of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC). Based in Bogota, the officer will lead the planning, design and implementation of mission‑critical information systems while ensuring compliance with UN ICT standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and direct major information systems projects, overseeing analysis, design, development, testing and implementation.
• Manage the Field Technology Unit budget, allocate funds, verify financing and prevent overruns.
• Develop technical specifications for equipment procurement and evaluate vendor proposals.
• Implement global UN information‑system strategies and maintain mission‑wide standards, guidelines and procedures.
• Produce detailed system specifications, user documentation and training materials.
• Provide expert advice to users, translate requirements into applications and resolve integration issues.
• Maintain, upgrade and troubleshoot existing systems, ensuring performance and reliability.
• Develop and test disaster‑recovery plans and conduct related training.
• Research emerging technologies and recommend deployments.
• Lead the team in operating and maintaining internet‑working systems, including operating‑system platforms, databases and workstations.
• Oversee backup and recovery processes and handle all aspects of contract administration.
• Mentor, supervise and develop the yearly work plan for the team.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing complex information‑system projects in an international or multilateral environment.
• Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
• Ability to develop technical specifications and evaluate procurement offers.
• Leadership experience with responsibility for supervising a technical team.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
