Intermediate Substations Engineer

About the role

WSP Colombia is seeking an Intermediate Substations Engineer to design and develop high‑voltage (HV) and extra‑high‑voltage (EHV) substations (230 kV and above). The role involves creating detailed physical layouts, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting both greenfield and brownfield projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop physical layouts, general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, site plans, elevations, and detailed installation drawings for HV/EHV substations.
• Design grounding systems, cable trench and conduit routing, lightning protection, and auxiliary station layouts.
• Coordinate equipment arrangements to meet utility standards, safety clearances, and constructability requirements.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, protection & control, transmission line, and project management teams.
• Review vendor drawings, integrate equipment specifications, and prepare construction packages, BOMs, technical reports, and calculations.
• Support project execution through design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and on‑site construction assistance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 6–9 years of experience in transmission and distribution substation engineering.
• Proven experience designing substations rated 230 kV and above.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD for engineering design and drafting.
• Familiarity with AIS (Air‑Insulated Substation) and GIS (Gas‑Insulated Substation) configurations.
• Knowledge of utility, IEEE, CSA, IEC, and/or NESC standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
