Senior Software Engineer (Java)

About the role

Fusemachines is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design, build and operate high‑performance backend services in Java. The role focuses on distributed, low‑latency systems that integrate with machine‑learning models and feature stores. You will work remotely with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable production solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain scalable Java backend services and APIs.
• Implement micro‑services and event‑driven components for high‑volume production workloads.
• Integrate backend applications with ML inference endpoints, models and feature stores.
• Apply resilience patterns such as caching, circuit breakers, rate limiting and graceful degradation.
• Monitor and optimise latency, throughput, availability and resource utilisation.
• Create and maintain logging, metrics, dashboards, distributed tracing and alerting using tools like Datadog.
• Participate in incident response, root‑cause analysis and continuous reliability improvements.

Required profile

• Several years of experience building backend systems in Java.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, testing and observability.
• Familiarity with production reliability practices and service‑level objectives.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate with ML, data and product teams.
• Experience integrating applications with machine‑learning models is a plus.
