Special Assistant, Political Affairs

About the role

The United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia is seeking a Special Assistant to support the Special Representative of the Secretary‑General (SRSG) on political affairs. The role provides high‑level advice, analysis and administrative support on the Colombian peace process and the implementation of the Mission’s mandate.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialized advice and technical support to the SRSG and Principal Political Affairs Officer on political developments and emerging issues.
• Identify, analyse and monitor political developments related to the peace process and the Final Peace Agreement.
• Brief the SRSG on matters requiring personal attention and formulate handling options.
• Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, draft letters, code cables and reports to the Security Council.
• Liaise with state officials, political parties, civil society, religious actors and international partners.
• Plan, organise and manage conferences, meetings, seminars and workshops as directed.
• Coordinate transition actions with bilateral donors and other organisations for post‑mission activities.
• Supervise, mentor and evaluate staff and participate in recruitment processes.
• Perform other duties as required.
