Senior Backend Developer

About the role

EPAM is looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join its AI Pods team. You will design and build trustworthy AI‑driven API services that enable large language models to interact with internal systems, vector databases and external tools in a secure, scalable environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend API services with LLM orchestration layers.
• Build and maintain advanced Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, including document ingestion, chunking, embedding and retrieval optimization.
• Develop and integrate agent tools using frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph and Model Context Protocol.
• Ensure security, privacy, observability and comprehensive test coverage across all backend workflows.
• Drive architecture decisions, set engineering standards and own API contracts and service reliability.
• Collaborate with frontend, data and infrastructure teams to deliver robust, reusable orchestration frameworks.

Required profile

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience with microservices and distributed systems.
• 2+ years of Python development for high‑performance, cloud‑native APIs.
• Strong expertise in AWS, Docker and ECS/EKS.
• Proven experience building RESTful APIs and applying secure coding and auth/authz best practices.
• Upper‑intermediate English proficiency (B2).
