Transport Officer

About the role

The Transport Officer leads the Transport Unit of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC) based in Bogota. Reporting to the Chief of Service Delivery, the incumbent ensures safe, efficient, and cost‑effective surface transport operations across the mission.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, manage and supervise surface motor‑transport support for UNVMC.
• Develop and implement the Vehicle Establishment, Acquisition, Maintenance and Recovery Plans in line with UN policies.
• Design and run road‑safety and accident‑prevention programmes, including the Driving Test Program and UN driving permits.
• Prepare the Transport Unit budget, monitor expenditures and ensure cost‑effective resupply, including outsourcing where appropriate.
• Maintain vehicle inventory, conduct annual physical checks and oversee disposal processes.
• Draft and update Standard Operating Procedures for surface transport operations.
• Coordinate procurement, evaluate technical bids, manage contracts and ensure compliance with quality‑assurance standards.
• Supervise training activities to build capacity of international and national staff.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing fleet operations and transport logistics in an international or multilateral environment.
• Strong knowledge of UN vehicle policies, procurement rules and contract management.
• Ability to develop budgets, monitor financial performance and optimise resource utilisation.
• Excellent supervisory and training skills for diverse staff.
