Business Unit Manager – Eye Care

About the role

The Business Unit Manager – Eye Care will lead market insight analysis and drive the portfolio and brand strategy for AbbVie’s eye‑care products across the North Cluster markets. Reporting to the BUD Specialties, the role aligns internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver patient‑centric tactics and achieve sales and margin objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the business unit strategy for the retinal diseases, glaucoma and tears portfolio, ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
• Act as the end‑to‑end guardian of the brand, maintaining consistent messaging and emotional connection with the brand story.
• Lead, inspire and develop high‑performing marketing, sales and in‑field teams, including product managers and district managers.
• Drive sales growth through targeted marketing initiatives, competitive positioning and optimal resource allocation.
• Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare providers, payers and patient organisations.
• Oversee forecasting, KPI monitoring, budget planning and ROI measurement for marketing activities.
• Guide the collection of insights to map the patient journey and facilitate cross‑functional workshops.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory, ethics and code of conduct requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Business Administration or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of commercial, marketing or sales leadership experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Proven track record of managing multi‑brand portfolios (more than five brands) and delivering measurable business results.
• Experience leading and developing high‑performing teams (at least 3 years of people‑management responsibility).
• Strong understanding of market access, medical affairs and stakeholder needs in eye‑care therapeutics.
• Advanced English proficiency and excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
