Cloud Architect – VMware to AWS Migration

About the role

EPAM is seeking a Cloud Architect to lead the design and execution of VMware‑to‑AWS migration programs for complex enterprises. You will work with multinational teams, define migration strategies, and ensure alignment with security and governance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design target solution architecture for VMware to AWS migration initiatives.
• Define migration approach, wave planning, and acceptance criteria for each phase.
• Coordinate cross‑functional teams of architects, infrastructure, network, database, security, and DevOps specialists.
• Oversee migration execution, ensuring quality, stability, and timeline adherence.
• Establish Landing Zone, Disaster Recovery, and hybrid connectivity architectures.
• Manage technical risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans throughout the project lifecycle.
• Serve as primary technical contact for clients, vendors, and global teams.
• Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation, tracking productivity and quality metrics.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud architecture, and technology transformation.
• 5+ years leading AWS migration programs in large enterprise environments.
• Proven experience with VMware to AWS migrations.

Required skills

• AWS services (EC2, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, Terraform, MGN, ECS/ECR, RDS, DMS, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway).
• Infrastructure as Code tools: Terraform (advanced), CloudFormation, Ansible.
• CI/CD pipeline implementation.
• Python scripting and Docker containerization.
• Database technologies: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB.
• Networking concepts: VPN, Security Groups, NACLs, DR architectures.
• FinOps, RPO/RTO planning, migration factories, runbook automation.
• Nice‑to‑have: Kubernetes (EKS) and ECS Anywhere to Fargate/EC2 transition.
