Legal Adviser 2 – International Humanitarian Law

About the role

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) seeks a Legal Adviser 2 to support its regional delegation in Colombia. The role focuses on advising on international humanitarian law (IHL) and related national and international legal matters, helping shape strategies and ensure compliance with legal frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse delegation activities and provide guidance on applicable national and international legal norms.
• Draft legal notes, analyses, and contribute legal content to working papers, reports and policy documents.
• Conduct independent research on specific legal issues and broader sectors of the national legal system.
• Support IHL dissemination to specialized audiences and the public, and assist in developing domestic legal frameworks for treaty implementation.
• Provide legal advice and technical assistance to national authorities and monitor developments in IHL and international human rights law.
• Represent the delegation in meetings with external partners and maintain a network of influential institutions and individuals.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in law with specialization in international humanitarian law or related fields.
• Proven experience advising on complex legal matters in a humanitarian or international context.
• Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise legal documents.
• Excellent communication skills in Spanish and English.
