National Legal Officer – Bogota

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a National Legal Officer to support its Mission in Bogota. Reporting directly to the Chief of Mission, the officer will coordinate legal reviews, ensure compliance with IOM policies, and facilitate interaction with the Office of Legal Affairs.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and administratively process contribution agreements, ensuring completeness and compliance with IOM procedures.
• Track, submit, and follow up legal templates and agreements for review and clearance by the Office of Legal Affairs.
• Review procurement and implementing partner documentation, referring matters requiring legal determination to the appropriate office.
• Prepare and coordinate legal correspondence, diplomatic communications, and Note Verbales in line with institutional guidance.
• Manage the review and processing of individual contractor documentation using approved templates.
• Compile background information and supporting documents for legal matters referred to the Office of Legal Affairs.
• Provide day‑to‑day guidance and task allocation to the Legal Unit Assistant, as needed.

Required profile

• Relevant legal qualification (e.g., law degree) and experience in legal coordination within an international or governmental context.
• Strong understanding of donor agreements, procurement processes, and contractual arrangements.
• Ability to work under the direct supervision of senior mission leadership and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.

Required skills

• Knowledge of IOM policies, regulations, and applicable legal frameworks.
• Familiarity with drafting and reviewing legal templates, agreements, and diplomatic communications.
• Excellent organizational and documentation management abilities.
