Process Engineer - Dairy & Food Industry

About the role

GEA, a global supplier of systems for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors, is looking for a Process Engineer for its dairy and food (LFF) business. The engineer works on pre-engineering and basic engineering of manufacturing processes, from dimensioning and mass and energy balances through to technical design reviews, procurement and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare process dimensioning, production time schedules, CIP specs and layout drawings, and calculate product losses.
• Draw flowcharts, block diagrams and P&IDs using 2D design tools, and perform mass and energy balances.
• Size thermal and mechanical equipment such as pumps, pipes, steam, valves, heat exchangers and instrumentation for non-sanitary and sanitary installations.
• Prepare equipment lists with technical specifications for electrical, automation and mechanical design, and coordinate with sales, procurement, logistics, electrical and automation engineering and project management.
• Review technical specifications for procurement negotiations, prepare purchase requisitions in SAP, and lead technical design reviews.
• Hold technical discussions and order clarifications with customers and suppliers, and drive improvements to technical solutions.
• Write process descriptions and operation descriptions, and support initial tests, start-up, commissioning and client training.
• Provide technical problem support and claim resolution, including root cause analysis, and deliver As-built P&IDs.
• Follow QHSE policies and help train new department staff.

Required profile

• Degree in engineering: Chemical and Food (preferred), Industrial or Mechanical (depending on experience).
• Master's degree and/or specific training in related technologies or processes (valuable).
• 5+ years of experience on medium-sized dairy and food projects (valuable).

Required skills

• Knowledge of main engineering calculation and design tools.
• P&ID drawing and mass and energy balance calculations.
