Procurement Specialist

About the role

The Procurement Specialist supports FAO Country Offices by managing day‑to‑day procurement operations for regular programmes and projects. Working under the FAO Representative and the Assistant FAOR (Administration), the role ensures that all procurement activities are carried out efficiently, on time, and in full compliance with FAO rules and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and issue tender documents, evaluate bids, and conduct tender opening panels.
• Follow up with suppliers, issue purchase orders, and manage contract amendments or renewals.
• Review purchase requisitions, orders, contracts and tenders to verify completeness and conformity with established procedures.
• Provide procedural guidance to internal clients on procurement rules and best practices.
• Facilitate procurement planning, contract management and vendor coordination to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of FAO procurement regulations and international procurement standards.
• Experience in operational and advisory support for procurement processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across units and with external suppliers.
• Under direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR (Administration) and in consultation with the CLSP.

Required skills

• Proficiency with procurement applications and related software.
• In‑depth understanding of procurement regulations and contract management.
• Vendor coordination and supplier relationship management.
