Senior Scala Engineer

About the role

Xebia is seeking a Senior Scala Engineer to join a consulting team that builds scalable, resilient backend systems for clients undergoing AI‑driven digital transformation. You will work with a functional‑first, Typelevel‑based stack on high‑throughput services running on AWS.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement low‑latency services in Scala 3 using cats‑effect, http4s, and fs2.
• Define type‑safe, schema‑driven APIs and ensure clean data transformation and serialization.
• Lead architectural discussions, balancing performance, maintainability, and delivery timelines.
• Conduct code reviews focused on functional‑programming idioms and effect safety.
• Design and manage AWS infrastructure as code (ECS, Lambda, managed databases, caching, queues, schedulers, streaming).
• Instrument services for observability, own production reliability and performance.
• Build and maintain automated test suites, including property‑based and integration tests.
• Produce technical proposals, architecture documents, and root‑cause analyses for client‑facing decisions.
• Mentor engineers on functional programming patterns and effect‑oriented system design.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Scala and functional programming.
• Production experience with a Typelevel‑style effect system and functional HTTP stack.
• Experience designing type‑safe, schema‑driven APIs in enterprise environments.
• Proven track record supporting high‑throughput, production‑grade JVM systems.
• Familiarity with observability and distributed tracing tools.
