Senior Software Development Engineer - Rule Engine (C++)

About the role

Amadeus is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer for its Business Rules (ABR) team, part of the Business Automation portfolio within the Configuration Platform. ABR is a central rule engine and rule-management framework that keeps business logic separate from application code, powering more than 200 Amadeus applications and handling over a million transactions per second. The role is based in Bogota and offers a hybrid setup.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build large parts of the ABR platform: the C++ rule engine, the ABR Client, REST/JSON and EDIFACT APIs, and the rule management tools.
• Own technical solutions end to end, from analysis and design to implementation, testing and production, with a high level of autonomy.
• Solve complex problems in performance, low latency, scalability and caching on a platform handling more than a million transactions per second.
• Lead modernization work such as the Forge migration, REST API enablement and retirement of legacy integrations, managing dependencies and risks across teams.
• Keep production reliable and compliant through QA, change control (CCB) and on-call support, and fix the root causes of incidents.
• Improve observability and operational efficiency with better monitoring, automation and AI-driven insights.
• Work with application teams, architects and product stakeholders to turn business needs into sound technical designs, and influence technical decisions and the platform roadmap.
• Mentor and coach other engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing and practices such as TDD, clean code and CI/CD, and lead working groups on multi-workstream projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 6-8 years of experience in backend software development, ideally on high-performance, low-latency or large-scale distributed systems.
• Proven track record of designing and delivering large components or systems, including running them in production.
• Experience with performance tuning, scalability, caching or modernizing legacy systems.
• Fluent English, spoken and written, able to explain technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.

Required skills

• C++ (modern standards) for high-performance, low-latency backend systems; Java and Maven-based builds.
• Unix/Linux development and debugging, including Bash shell scripting.
• Oracle Database and SQL, using SQL*Plus and SQL Developer.
• REST/JSON APIs and serialization formats such as Protocol Buffers and XML.
• Git and Bitbucket, including branching strategies, code reviews and submodules.
• Test-driven development, unit and integration testing, CI/CD pipelines, and performance profiling.
