Backend Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Svitla Systems Inc. is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain high‑performance services that support millions of job seekers and employers worldwide. This hands‑on role offers a high degree of independence, allowing you to own critical components and collaborate closely with product, design, and platform teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate backend services using Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, and Spring Batch.
• Create and evolve REST and GraphQL APIs for internal and consumer‑facing products.
• Build and optimize batch‑processing pipelines for data‑intensive workflows.
• Leverage LLM‑assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development while applying engineering judgment.
• Analyze trade‑offs between performance, maintainability, and delivery speed.
• Participate in code reviews, on‑call rotations, and incident response to ensure service reliability.
• Collaborate with product managers and architects to align technical solutions with business goals.

Required profile

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience, primarily in Java or Kotlin.
• Production experience with Spring Boot and Spring Batch (or equivalent JVM batch frameworks).
• Strong understanding of REST API design and hands‑on experience with GraphQL.
• Familiarity with LLM‑based coding assistants and ability to evaluate AI‑generated code.
• Solid knowledge of relational or NoSQL databases, async messaging (Kafka), and distributed systems.
• Ability to work independently on moderately complex problems and deliver quality results.
