Controller – Consumer Industry Finance Leader

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a seasoned Controller to lead and scale the accounting and finance function for its fast‑growing consumer‑focused business. The role blends strategic financial oversight with hands‑on operational execution, partnering closely with executive leadership and key clients.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, revenue recognition, inventory, and cost accounting.
• Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements; develop and enforce internal controls and financial policies.
• Partner with leadership on financial planning, forecasting, and strategic initiatives.
• Manage financial reporting for consumer revenue streams, margins, pricing models and promotional impacts.
• Analyze sales performance, channel profitability and customer trends.
• Serve as financial liaison for key clients and partners, communicating insights to non‑financial stakeholders.
• Support audits, investor inquiries and board reporting as needed.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing accounting team, recruiting top talent and establishing scalable processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
• 8–12+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 4+ years in a Controller or senior finance leadership role.
• Experience in consumer‑focused environments such as retail, e‑commerce or CPG.
• Deep knowledge of GAAP, internal controls and audit processes.
• Proven track record of building and scaling finance teams.
