Criminal Defense Legal Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a full‑time remote Criminal Defense Legal Assistant to support attorneys specializing in criminal defense. The role involves managing case documentation, coordinating schedules, and ensuring timely court filings while collaborating closely with the legal team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, format, and organize pleadings, motions, discovery materials, and other legal documents.
• Maintain electronic and paper case files, ensuring accurate and up‑to‑date records.
• Manage attorneys’ calendars, schedule hearings, client meetings, and track critical deadlines.
• Communicate with clients, court personnel, and external partners in a professional manner.
• Draft correspondence and conduct basic legal research under supervision.
• Update case management and document management systems with relevant information.

Required profile

• Foundational knowledge of criminal defense law and court procedures.
• Experience supporting attorneys or in a similar legal support role.
• High attention to detail, strong time‑management skills, and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
• Commitment to confidentiality and professional handling of sensitive information.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
• Experience using legal practice management and document management software.
• Familiarity with QuickBooks (preferred).
