Design Engineer

About the role

Allied Steel Buildings is seeking a Design Engineer to create accurate structural designs for steel building projects worldwide. The role involves translating architectural concepts into safe, code‑compliant steel structures while supporting continuous improvement across the engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed structural designs for steel buildings that meet codes, project requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
• Perform value engineering to optimise costs without compromising safety.
• Interpret complex architectural and structural drawings and coordinate with the Detailing Team (Tekla) to ensure accurate transfer of design data.
• Review and cross‑check calculations and drawings prepared by junior engineers, correcting errors before production release.
• Manage multiple overlapping projects, update designs with last‑minute changes, and mentor new team members.
• Identify and implement process improvements and contribute to the development of design tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with a structural specialization.
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing pre‑engineered metal buildings and complex steel structures.
• Experience with designs that include overhead cranes, mezzanines, and irregular geometries.
• Strong autonomy in technical decision‑making and ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MBS, SAP2000, ETABS, and IDEA StatiCa.
• Advanced AutoCAD skills and intermediate Tekla Structures or IFC modeling.
• Structural design and value‑engineering expertise for steel buildings.
