About the role

The Texas Press Association is seeking an Executive Director to lead and champion the Texas newspaper industry. This senior leader will guide a dedicated team, oversee multiple entities, and shape the future of journalism across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the affairs of the Texas Press Association, Texas Press Service Inc., and the Texas Newspaper Foundation.
• Manage robust financial portfolios, including advertising sales networks, educational workshops, the foundation, and a $3.5M+ investment reserve fund.
• Advocate for legislative priorities through the Association’s Legislative Advocacy Program.
• Collaborate with members and partners to inspire newspapers of all sizes, from small‑town weeklies to major metro dailies.
• Partner with the Board of Directors to drive long‑term vision and strategy.
• Connect with Texas journalism schools and foster alliances with other trade associations.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a nonprofit, media, or advocacy organization.
• Strong financial oversight and budgeting expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to influence public policy and legislative matters.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills with diverse stakeholders, including members, partners, and educational institutions.
• Visionary mindset with a commitment to the legacy and future of Texas journalism.
