Machine Learning Engineer – AI/ML for Demand Forecasting

About the role

We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to support an AI/ML implementation for demand forecasting and resource optimization in the public transportation and fare collection industry. The role works closely with an AWS ProServe ML Specialist on exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, capacity modeling, and operational dashboards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) and statistical profiling to uncover trends and insights.
• Perform feature engineering for time-series forecasting.
• Extract, transform, and load data from relational databases (RDS, Oracle, PostgreSQL) into analytics-ready formats.
• Develop data ingestion and processing pipelines.
• Build classical machine-learning models for time-series forecasting, regression, and capacity/throughput modeling.
• Evaluate model performance using RMSE, MAE, and MAPE and document results.
• Create visualizations and dashboards with Amazon QuickSight or equivalent BI tools.
• Utilize the Python data stack (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, matplotlib/seaborn) for data manipulation and analysis.
• Apply model explainability techniques such as SHAP.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business rules into feature-engineering pipelines and deliver projects under milestone-driven, fixed-price contracts.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience in data engineering or applied data science.
• Proven experience with AWS services, especially SageMaker, QuickSight, and relational databases.
• Strong background in time-series forecasting, regression, and classical ML modeling.
• Experience documenting model performance and creating operational dashboards.
• Relevant AWS certifications (Cloud Practitioner, Data Engineer – Associate, Machine Learning – Associate or Specialty) are a plus.
