Principal Engineer – Ground Engineering

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Engineer specialized in Ground Engineering to join its expanding team in Bogota. The role involves delivering geotechnical designs for transportation, water and energy projects within multidisciplinary, multicultural environments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed geotechnical design tasks, including calculations, testing, and preparation of technical specifications.
• Provide specialized technical input for geotechnical studies and designs, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
• Guide entry‑level engineers on soil and rock mechanics and develop procedures to improve cost‑effective work.
• Collaborate with ground and tunnelling engineers across global AECOM offices and interdisciplinary project teams.
• Conduct quality‑control reviews of reports, calculations and drawings, and identify discrepancies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology; Master’s degree with geotechnical focus preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in ground engineering design for transportation, water or energy projects.
• Proven experience applying international geotechnical regulations and standards.
• Fluent English (oral and written).
• Professional Engineer license (US or Australia) and experience on international projects are a plus.

• Finite‑element analysis: PLAXIS 2D, PLAXIS 3D, RS2, RS3.
• CAD tools: Civil 3D, AutoCAD.
• Structural analysis (optional): SAP 2000, SAFE.
• BIM platforms: BIM 360, ACC.
• Geotechnical modelling: Leapfrog, OpenGround, Gint.
