Principal Engineer – Telecommunications & Data Centers

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead telecommunications and ICT design for data centers and commercial facilities in Bogota. The role involves creating integrated structured cabling solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design structured copper and fiber cabling systems, define cable pathways, and specify rack elevations, ODFs, and passive components.
• Develop drawings, technical specifications, and bills of quantities while coordinating with architecture, civil, electrical, mechanical, security, and operations teams.
• Ensure designs meet all relevant codes, standards, and regulations (IEEE C2, OSHA 1910, TIA, BICSI).
• Perform surveys, design development, and construction administration for ICT infrastructure projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with at least 6 years of ICT design experience (10+ years preferred).
• Strong communication skills in English, ability to work independently and lead complex projects.
• Current BICSI RCDD certification or other active BICSI credential.

Required skills

• Revit, AutoCAD, Visio Professional, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Project, Microsoft 365 Suite.
• Design of Structured Cabling Systems (copper and fiber) for data centers.
• Knowledge of IEEE C2, OSHA 1910, TIA Cabling Standards, TIA Data Center Standards, BICSI TDMM.
