Protection Officer – Migration & Humanitarian Programs

About the role

Under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Head of Programmes in IOM Bogota, the Protection Officer provides technical and operational support for the country office’s protection activities, ensuring they are evidence‑based, aligned with IOM policies and humanitarian principles.

Key responsibilities

• Support the planning, implementation and monitoring of protection interventions in line with the CO strategy, including Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration, Counter‑Trafficking, SOGIESC and Child Protection programmes.
• Provide technical assistance for protection work plans, monitoring and evaluation frameworks and reporting to donors and partners.
• Coordinate the development and dissemination of the Country‑Office Protection Strategy and promote protection mainstreaming across programmes.
• Supervise and build capacity of protection staff, manage recruitment, performance and staff structure improvements.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with government, UN and NGOs, and represent IOM in coordination mechanisms.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Humanitarian Affairs or related field with at least two years relevant experience, or a university degree with four years experience.
• Demonstrated experience in project development and direct implementation of protection programmes in Latin America migration contexts.
• Proven managerial experience supervising protection staff and caseworkers.
• Experience in protection case management, capacity building and coordination with sectors such as PSEA, AAP and child safeguarding.
