Scala Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Scala Engineer to join Xebia Functional’s consulting team. You will help clients design and build highly scalable, distributed systems while working with cutting‑edge technologies such as Scala, Akka, AWS, and Kafka.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with a cross‑functional engineering group to deliver performant solutions.
• Lead high‑level architecture discussions and planning sessions.
• Design simple, maintainable solutions for complex problems.
• Ensure code quality through reviews and constructive feedback.
• Provide technical proposals, root‑cause analyses, and professional guidance to clients.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of professional software development experience.
• Strong expertise in Scala and functional programming paradigms.
• Proven experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs in an enterprise environment.
• Hands‑on experience with the full software development lifecycle, source control, CI/CD, and automated testing.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems and high‑throughput production environments.
• Practical experience with AWS services, especially compute, storage, containers, and serverless.
• Familiarity with asynchronous programming models, preferably using Kafka.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
