Security Specialist, Akamai WAF

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Akamai WAF professional to join our WebSec team in Colombia. The specialist will manage day‑to‑day WAF operations, respond to security incidents and oversee Akamai edge security for e‑commerce and API platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and support Akamai WAF (App & API Protector / Kona Site Defender) in production environments.
• Respond to and troubleshoot security incidents such as WAF events, DDoS attacks, bot traffic, API abuse and outages.
• Perform WAF rule tuning, policy updates and handle exceptions.
• Manage Akamai configurations including Property Manager, security policies and edge behaviours.
• Assist with TLS/certificate issues affecting edge delivery.
• Support change management for standard and emergency changes.
• Develop and maintain runbooks, playbooks and operational documentation.
• Collaborate with internal teams, Akamai and vendors to resolve production issues.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with Akamai WAF products (App & API Protector, Kona Site Defender) in production.
• Strong understanding of HTTP/S, APIs and web application behaviour.
• Proven ability to tune WAF rules and manage false positives.
• Experience with incident response and outage support.
• Ability to troubleshoot edge‑to‑origin and API connectivity issues.
