Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (Remote, Colombia)

About the role

Open LMS is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to help build, scale and evolve its multi-tenant SaaS hosting platform on AWS. The platform dynamically provisions, manages and scales hundreds of Moodle LMS instances for education clients, using custom orchestration tooling, distributed service discovery and infrastructure as code. This is a hands-on, full-stack infrastructure role with real ownership of the platform's architecture, and it is remote.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform (EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda, ALB, ElastiCache, Route 53, VPC networking)
• Write and maintain Puppet modules to configure and manage fleets of EC2 instances across auto-scaling groups
• Maintain and extend Python-based automation and tooling for platform operations
• Operate and improve distributed service discovery and configuration management platforms, and tune distributed caching technologies
• Run and scale the observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Fluentd, PagerDuty) and take part in on-call rotations
• Contribute to architecture decisions, scalability strategies and release process improvements
• Evaluate distributed storage solutions, collaborate on API contracts and integration patterns, and take part in incident response and root cause analysis

Required profile

• Strong experience with AWS services in production, especially EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda, ALB, ElastiCache, Route 53, IAM and VPC networking
• Solid Linux systems administration experience, including web servers, networking, performance analysis, troubleshooting and tuning (preferably Ubuntu)
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts such as consensus, leader election, distributed locking and eventual consistency
• Ability to document architectural decisions and explain trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Required skills

• Terraform modules for production infrastructure
• Puppet, Ansible, Chef or Salt; ability to learn and maintain Puppet-based environments
• Production Python, writing and maintaining daemons
• Observability pipelines (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki or equivalent)
• GitLab-based deployment and release processes
• Preferred: distributed storage (Ceph, GlusterFS, JuiceFS, AWS EFS), etcd, Varnish and VCL, PHP, secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager, Vault, Parameter Store) and zero-downtime VM deployments
