Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Hydro & Dams

About the role

WSP Colombia is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical activities on hydroelectric, dam, water‑resources, mining and major infrastructure projects. The role combines technical leadership, client advisory and mentorship of junior staff while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical investigations, site‑characterisation programmes and interpretation of subsurface conditions.
• Design and evaluate dams, embankments, foundations, retaining structures, tunnels and hydraulic infrastructure.
• Perform and review analyses such as slope stability, seepage, settlement, deformation and foundation assessments.
• Conduct dam safety evaluations, risk assessments, rehabilitation studies and asset‑management programmes.
• Develop geotechnical models and numerical analyses using industry‑standard software.
• Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, specifications and design documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Support construction through inspections, monitoring, contractor reviews and field issue resolution.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of professional geotechnical engineering experience.
• Extensive experience on hydro‑electric, dam, water‑resources, mining or large‑scale infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to lead investigations, design work and technical reviews.
• Advanced proficiency in English and French.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, Geotechnical or related engineering; Master’s preferred.
• Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng. or equivalent) preferred.
