Staff Product Designer

About the role

Sonatype is looking for a Staff Product Designer to shape the experience of its multi‑product developer platform. You will work closely with product managers and engineers to co‑create user flows, prototype in code, and help the team ship better UX for complex developer workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Develop deep understanding of Sonatype’s platform, personas, and core jobs‑to‑be‑done.
• Collaborate with PMs and engineers to design and iterate user flows and experience direction.
• Map complex information architecture, permissions models, and multi‑product interactions into intuitive patterns.
• Create coded UX prototypes using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, VS Code, GitHub workflows, and Claude Code.
• Ensure prototypes are structured for AI tools to generate engineering specs directly from code diffs.
• Conduct lightweight research (interviews, surveys, UAT) when needed and decide when to move forward without it.

Required profile

• Strong ability to understand complex developer workflows and translate them into usable designs.
• Hands‑on mindset; comfortable building real prototypes rather than static mock‑ups.
• Collaborative attitude, working closely with engineering and product teams.

Required skills

• HTML
• CSS
• JavaScript
• React
• VS Code
• GitHub workflows
• Claude Code (AI‑assisted coding)
• Miro for flow mapping
