British Sign Language Specialist – AI Trainer (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a British Sign Language (BSL) specialist to help train large‑scale AI language models. Your expertise will shape how AI understands and generates BSL, improving accessibility and communication tools for Deaf and Hard‑of‑Hearing communities.

Key responsibilities

• Interact with AI models on real‑world BSL communication scenarios and theoretical linguistic questions.
• Verify linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and capture reproducible error traces.
• Document failure modes and suggest improvements to prompt engineering and evaluation metrics.
• Provide feedback on translation, classifier usage, facial expressions, and spatial grammar.

Required profile

• Fluent in British Sign Language, including grammar, syntax, non‑manual markers, fingerspelling and regional variations.
• Deep understanding of Deaf culture and visual linguistics.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, Linguistics or related field (preferred).
• RID certification, teaching experience, or community interpreting projects are strong assets.
• Ability to communicate metacognitively and “show your work” clearly.
