Legal Counsel – Fintech

About the role

PayJoy is seeking a seasoned Counsel to lead legal affairs for a specific country, ensuring strict regulatory compliance and risk mitigation across its fintech operations. The role involves independent contract management, audit leadership, and strategic legal guidance for product and business initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead country‑wide legal affairs, guaranteeing compliance with local regulations and minimizing operational risk.
• Review, draft, and negotiate complex commercial, technology, vendor, and strategic alliance contracts.
• Provide legal advice to product, engineering, and business teams, translating commercial needs into enforceable legal solutions.
• Plan and execute internal and external legal audits, identify risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
• Prepare and review English (and Spanish when needed) legal documents, policies, regulatory reports, and formal communications.
• Analyze fintech business models and advise on new initiatives, product launches, and cross‑border operations.
• Manage licensing processes, interact with regulatory authorities, and support acquisition and maintenance of required permits.
• Handle multiple high‑priority projects autonomously in a fast‑paced environment.

Required profile

• Strong background in corporate, contractual, and regulatory law, preferably with international exposure.
• Proven experience in the tech or fintech sector, including familiarity with licensing and compliance.
• Solid understanding of legal audits, internal controls, and risk management.
• Ability to interpret complex business models and advise on digital products.
• Experience liaising with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset, sound legal judgment, and high autonomy.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluent bilingual proficiency in English (and Spanish when applicable).
