Plumbing Design Engineer

About the role

Utopia is seeking an experienced Plumbing Design Engineer to lead the design of plumbing, drainage, and water‑distribution systems for luxury villas and boutique hotels worldwide. The role is fully remote and reports to the MEP Design Manager, collaborating daily with architects, interior designers, structural engineers, and client representatives.

Key responsibilities

• Design plumbing, drainage, supply, and distribution systems that comply with local codes and international standards.
• Lead spatial coordination with architectural and structural models, resolve clashes, and protect design intent from concept to technical completion.
• Develop detailed drawings, specifications, and technical documentation using CAD and BIM tools, directing BIM modelers for accuracy.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate systems without compromising spatial or aesthetic quality.
• Perform load calculations and system sizing to ensure optimal performance under all project conditions.
• Oversee equipment selection aligned with project requirements, sustainability targets, and luxury standards.
• Review and approve deliverables from third‑party designers, consultants, and surveyors.
• Participate in value‑engineering discussions to balance cost, quality, and performance.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Building Engineering with a focus on plumbing, drainage, pools, or storm drainage.
• 5‑10 years of engineering design experience in a design consultancy or general contractor environment.
• Proven experience on low‑rise residential and hospitality projects such as private villas, boutique hotels, or resorts.
• Strong communication and presentation skills in professional‑level English.
• Self‑organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage deliverables independently in a remote setting.
