Staff Software Engineer, Backend

About the role

Fullstory is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Backend for its Guides & Surveys team, which helps customers guide, survey and engage users in real time inside their own websites and apps. The role is remote, anywhere within Bogotá, Colombia, and you will own the service that stores user progress, guides and survey data, keeping it reliable across devices and moving it onto Fullstory's core technology stack.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve the back-end service storing user progress, guides and survey data (about 80% back end, 20% front end) and lead large cross-team strategic initiatives.
• Take projects with unclear requirements, clarify the product vision with the product manager and designer, write design docs and review them with partners such as mobile, web capture, data management and infrastructure teams.
• Turn approved designs into a delivery plan in Jira, coordinate timelines and deliver end to end across infrastructure, back-end services, the JavaScript guides snippet and the React-based editor, including test plans and acceptance scenarios.
• Share an on-call rotation: triage issues from other teams and Customer Support, debug across client and server, and occasionally join customer calls.
• Mentor engineers, raise the bar on code review and GitHub workflows, run proofs of concept for new technology and partner on company-wide initiatives such as hackathons and Builders' Fridays.
• Use AI tools daily to speed up design, coding, code review, debugging and test planning, and help shape AI-driven features such as content generation and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.

Required profile

• Designed, built and operated complex back-end systems in production, ideally in PHP or Go (Java or other languages also welcome).
• Written technical design docs, led architecture decisions and mentored other engineers.
• Shipped front-end work in JavaScript, ideally with React.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• English fluency for daily collaboration with US-based teams.
• Nice to have: experience migrating a legacy service, building in-app guidance or survey products, or working on real-time, client-side experiences.

• Base salary of $90,000 - $100,000 USD, varying with experience and skills, plus a discretionary bonus of up to 15% of base salary.
