Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor

About the role

FHI 360 is seeking an Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor to join the STRIDES project in Bogotá, Colombia. The advisor will provide technical assistance to strengthen national and sub‑national laboratory and epidemiological surveillance systems, supporting evidence‑based decision‑making for emerging infectious disease threats.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with day‑to‑day technical and operational aspects of the STRIDES project in Colombia.
• Develop, coordinate, and implement surveillance activities, including epidemiological and laboratory surveillance of zoonotic, epidemic‑ and pandemic‑prone diseases.
• Support regional technical staff to ensure project activities align with work plans and technical standards.
• Review and revise project and donor reports, draft publications, and external communications.
• Coordinate with ministries of health, district health staff, and international and national development partners.
• Provide input on national guidelines and normative policies related to animal and human disease surveillance.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or a related field.
• Proven experience in infectious disease surveillance and outbreak investigation at national or regional levels.
• Strong understanding of laboratory systems and health informatics.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.

Required skills

• Experience with epidemiological surveillance methodologies.
• Knowledge of laboratory surveillance for zoonotic and pandemic‑prone diseases.
• Familiarity with health informatics and data management systems.
