Activities Assistant

About the role

The Activities Assistant supports the Activity Director in delivering a creative and interactive program for residents of a long‑term care facility. Working closely with staff, families and external partners, the role helps ensure activities meet the physical, mental and psychosocial needs of each resident.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and conducting individual, small‑group and large‑group activities.
• Help develop and maintain the monthly activity calendar and attendance records.
• Support communication among employees, residents, families, and external agencies.
• Participate in discharge planning, activity care plans and resident assessments.
• Arrange transportation for resident outings, appointments and discharge needs.
• Provide materials such as Braille reading items or audio books and encourage self‑initiated hobbies.
• Assist with documentation, quarterly progress notes and quality‑assurance actions.
• Keep the Activity Department clean, orderly and secure.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferably one year of experience in a long‑term care or similar health‑care setting.
• Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures, policies and manuals.
• Strong problem‑solving and reasoning abilities.
• Physical ability to stand, walk frequently and sit occasionally.
