Building Consultant – Construction & Restoration

About the role

J.S. Held is seeking a Building Consultant to join its Medellín office. The role supports the Building Consulting Practice Group by communicating with clients, conducting field inspections, and delivering detailed estimates and reports for insurance‑related construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain client communication and positive relationships with project representatives.
• Perform on‑site inspections, field visits, and detailed take‑offs of property conditions.
• Assist in estimating projects of all sizes using tools such as Xactimate, Cotality and RS Means.
• Review construction estimates for quality, identify inconsistencies and missing information.
• Develop Period of Repair (POR) schedules and contribute to expert‑level consulting reports.
• Analyze project documents including contracts, change orders, daily reports and meeting minutes to meet deadlines and cost targets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum two years of experience in construction budgeting, restoration, scheduling and project management.
• Fieldwork experience on at least one construction project.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xactimate, Cotality or RS Means estimating software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
• Programming knowledge in Python, Visual Basic, JavaScript or C#.
• Data analysis using Power BI.
