Building Consultant – Construction & Restoration

About the role

J.S. Held is seeking a motivated Building Consultant to join its Building Consulting Practice Group in Medellin, Colombia. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality service to clients involved in insurance claim processes, property condition assessments, and complex restoration projects.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate with clients and stakeholders throughout the claim process, maintaining positive relationships.
• Perform field inspections, detailed take‑offs of property conditions, and site visits.
• Assist in estimating projects of various sizes using tools such as Xactimate, Cotality, and RS Means.
• Conduct quality‑assurance reviews of construction estimates, identifying inconsistencies and missing information.
• Develop Period of Repair (POR) schedules and contribute to expert‑level consulting reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction budgeting, restoration, scheduling, and project management.
• Fieldwork experience on at least one construction project.
• Bilingual with strong written and spoken English proficiency.
• Willingness to travel overnight, including between Colombia and the United States.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xactimate, Cotality or RS Means estimating software.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Visual Basic, JavaScript, or C#.
• Experience with data analysis tools, particularly Power BI.
