Chief Operating Officer (Mining, LATAM) - Colombia

About the role

Gatesource HR is recruiting a Chief Operating Officer to lead mining operations and projects across Latin America, ensuring high standards of safety, productivity, operational efficiency and profitability. The position is based in Colombia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee mining operations so that production targets, cost control and profitability objectives are met.
• Develop and implement strategies to optimise processes, improve productivity and reduce operational costs.
• Oversee mine planning, mineral processing, maintenance, exploration and technical services.
• Manage expansion, construction, commissioning and start-up of mining projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and operational standards.
• Manage operational and capital expenditure budgets (OPEX and CAPEX).
• Lead multidisciplinary and international teams and foster a culture of operational excellence.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology or a related field; postgraduate degree preferred.
• Ideally 20 years of experience in the mining industry, including at least 10 years in senior operational leadership roles.
• Demonstrated success managing complex mining operations and international teams.
• Proven track record of improving productivity, reducing costs and increasing profitability.
• Advanced English proficiency is required.

Required skills

• Mechanized underground mining experience is essential.
• Strong knowledge of mineral processing, mine planning and operational optimization.
• Experience in mining project construction, expansion, commissioning or start-up.
