Climate Change Mitigation Trainee

About the role

Climate Focus is an international advisory company helping governments, multilateral and non-governmental organisations and companies design policies, programmes and projects to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Its Bogotá office is looking for a Climate Change Mitigation Trainee to join projects for global clients, from climate finance feasibility assessments and carbon project development to legal and policy research and agricultural zero-deforestation business models. The traineeship is paid and starts in January 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse quantitative and qualitative data on climate and the environment (GHG accounting, carbon budgets and inventories)
• Research climate policy and governance (Article 6), compliance and voluntary carbon markets, carbon pricing, climate finance, land use change and sustainable agricultural business models
• Research the economic impacts of climate change and mitigation strategies
• Draft and edit reports and briefings for client deliverables
• Support proposal drafting and help prepare client meetings, workshops and events

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in economics, political science, environmental engineering, finance, business administration, geography or a related field; a master's degree in public policy, law, climate policy, carbon accounting, sustainability management or environmental engineering is also accepted, and postgraduate students finishing their degrees are welcome
• Written fluency in Spanish and English; French is a plus
• Solid research and analytical skills
• Legal right to work in Colombia
• Affinity for environmental protection and climate mitigation, attention to detail, curiosity and ability to learn quickly
