Controller / Finance Operations Lead (Remote)

About the role

Higher Options is seeking a remote Controller / Finance Operations Lead to support the financial and accounting operations of a growing U.S.-based hospitality and events group. The role combines senior accounting responsibilities with strategic insight, ensuring clean books and actionable financial reporting across multiple entities.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Online for several brands.
• Review, classify and reconcile transactions, ensuring correct impact on income statements and balance sheets.
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, flagging unusual fluctuations.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll allocations and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Support tax compliance, audit readiness and coordination with external advisors.
• Improve accounting workflows, documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Partner with founders and leadership to deliver clear financial insights.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Deep understanding of financial statements and the relationship between P&L, balance sheet and underlying transactions.
• Proven ability to identify month‑over‑month discrepancies and red flags.
• Experience managing multi‑entity accounting and reconciliations.
• High attention to detail, independent work style and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
