Data Center Facilities Technician – Controls

About the role

The Data Center Facilities Technician – Controls is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining critical infrastructure in Google data centers. The role focuses on control systems such as BMS, PMS and SCADA, ensuring reliable performance and rapid response to any issues.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair data‑center systems including piping, non‑critical electrical and mechanical components.
• Operate and monitor heating, cooling, power supply, generators, UPS and electrical distribution systems.
• Monitor control and monitoring platforms (BMS, PMS, SCADA) from a central control room.
• Respond to emergencies, abnormal conditions and outages to minimise recovery time.
• Develop and implement cost‑effective solutions to improve data‑center efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
• Communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work.
• Utilise scripting languages for automation and diagnostic tasks.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree, trade‑school certification, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years experience in controls/automation within an industrial or commercial environment.
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lb and use required safety equipment.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours and shift rotations.
• Preferred: experience in construction/technical settings, data‑centers, hospitals, power plants or laboratories.
• Preferred: familiarity with BMS, PMS, SCADA and related troubleshooting tools.
• Preferred: proficiency in a scripting language.
