Director of Engineering - Medellín Hub

About the role

A global SaaS leader in field service management, whose software is built by an established Australian engineering organization, is investing in a new engineering hub in Medellín and is looking for a Director of Engineering. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on expanding the platform's capabilities, using AI as a core lever to accelerate delivery and improve team velocity. You will hire and build the Medellín team and partner closely with the Australian engineering organization.

Key responsibilities

• Build the team: recruit, interview and hire engineers, tech leads and future managers.
• Accelerate delivery with AI: champion AI-first, AI-native development practices and tooling to increase speed and code quality.
• Build an in-office culture that drives collaboration, learning and innovation.
• Set engineering practices, tooling, coding standards and delivery rhythms for a distributed, multi-region organization.
• Partner with engineering leadership in Australia on architecture, roadmap and ways of working.
• Own delivery: take accountability for the Colombia team's contribution to the product roadmap, balancing speed with quality.
• Represent Colombia in leadership discussions and planning cycles.
• Design a scalable org structure (squads, leads, career paths).

Required profile

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams, ideally building or scaling a new team, office or function.
• Strong hands-on technical background in full-stack, cloud-native SaaS, with the credibility to hire and evaluate senior engineers.
• Track record of hiring engineers; demonstrated use of AI-first or AI-native practices.
• Experience in a distributed, global engineering model and in building in-person team cultures.
• Fluent written and spoken English and strong executive presence.
• Nice to have: experience with Australia/APAC teams, field service management, vertical SaaS or B2B software.
