Engineering Manager – Ubuntu Core

About the role

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the development of Ubuntu Core, a secure embedded Linux operating system for IoT, automotive, and aviation. You will guide a distributed team of engineers, shape the product roadmap, and collaborate with stakeholders worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Build and lead a distributed engineering team through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and career development.
• Design and implement Ubuntu Core system software across ARM, RISC‑V, and x86 architectures.
• Prioritise requests, plan road‑maps, and ensure timely delivery of high‑quality software.
• Advocate modern agile practices and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture.

Required profile

• Proven experience in embedded software development and leading technical teams.
• Strong background in Golang, C++ and Shell scripting.
• Solid understanding of Linux, preferably Debian/Ubuntu based distributions.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
