Forward Deployed Engineer, LATAM

About the role

Telnyx is building a local Enterprise Sales Pod in Bogotá, made of one Account Executive and one Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE). The FDE embeds with enterprise customers to architect and ship production systems on Telnyx's global network (voice, messaging, AI and wireless). The role is hybrid, based in Bogotá or willing to relocate, with travel across Colombia and the Andean/LATAM region.

Key responsibilities

• Build and deploy custom implementations such as AI Voice Assistants, Telnyx APIs (Voice, Messaging, Fax, Wireless) and WebRTC.
• Run open-weight LLMs in customer environments via Telnyx Inference, or deploy self-hosted stacks (Llama, Mistral, Latam-X, Guaraní-BERT) behind your own serving engine when air-gapped or sovereign-cloud is required.
• Deploy and operate LiteLLM as a unified OpenAI-compatible gateway with routing, load balancing, retries, rate limits and virtual keys.
• Instrument and govern LLM usage: cost tracking, caching, logging and observability (OpenTelemetry, Langfuse).
• Wire production observability (metrics, logs, traces, alerts) and design model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads.
• Make the build-vs-buy case between self-hosted models and hosted APIs, and adapt prompts, RAG pipelines and evaluation harnesses to Spanish, Portuguese and English use cases and LATAM regulations.
• Lead POCs, pilots and production launches, stay engaged until the solution is live and stable, and collaborate with Product and Engineering on the roadmap.
• Create technical documentation, runbooks and handoff materials, and troubleshoot complex integrations on customer sites.

Required profile

• CS degree or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years building and shipping production software, on-call and debugging it; a consulting background counts if the same is true.
• Customer-facing engineering experience: running discovery with customer engineers and presenting to executives in the same week.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish.
• Legally authorized to work in Colombia or eligible for sponsorship.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, Node.js/TypeScript and Go.
• Containerized services on Kubernetes, with secrets management and upgrades.
• Observability: Prometheus + Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog or ELK.
• High-concurrency systems: Kafka, message queues, event streams.
• API development from scratch (REST/GraphQL, OpenAPI, auth, rate limiting, versioning).
• SIP, WebRTC or real-time voice/messaging exposure.
