Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme is seeking a GIS Specialist consultant to design, build and maintain a geographic information system and geodatabase for three priority neighbourhoods. The role supports the development of the Habitat Management Plan (PGH) through spatial data collection, analysis and mapping.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain the project GIS and geodatabase, integrating cartographic, social, demographic, environmental and urban layers.
• Produce base and thematic maps for the Territorial‑Supports Study, including land‑use, public space, risk, infrastructure and housing data.
• Georeference critical waste‑accumulation points and conduct spatial analyses to guide circular‑economy solutions.
• Digitize community participatory‑mapping outputs and integrate them into the PGH diagnosis and planning documents.
• Develop site‑suitability, accessibility and environmental‑restriction analyses for project prioritisation.
• Prepare maps, dashboards and other geographic outputs for technical reports, presentations and the PGH adoption decree.
• Ensure GIS data align with official sources and Ministry of Housing guidelines, validating quality, consistency and metadata.
• Support field data‑collection activities (GPS surveying, mapping workshops) and provide GIS assistance during participatory sessions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in GIS project implementation and geodatabase management.
• Ability to coordinate with project coordinators, validate activities and support technical teams.
• Familiarity with field data‑collection protocols and community‑mapping processes.
