Head of Engineering - Payments Platform

About the role

Rebill is the financial infrastructure platform for the Americas, used by companies in software, AI, travel and digital services to operate across Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and the United States. It runs its own payment infrastructure on event-driven microservices, Kubernetes on Azure and AWS, and infrastructure as code. The Head of Engineering runs engineering day to day, reports to the CTO and leads a small in-house team alongside external engineering partners.

Key responsibilities

• Own reliability: uptime, incident response, observability and the performance of payment routing
• Own delivery: the quarterly technical roadmap, release cadence and realistic dates
• Set the technical bar: code review standards, testing, on-call and documentation
• Speed up time to market by turning new acquirers and payment methods into near-configurable integrations
• Decide what to build in-house versus with partners and justify the cost
• Review pull requests and write code in the first year; go into incidents personally

Required profile

• 8+ years building software, with at least 3 engineers directly managed
• Background in payments (acquiring, processing, ledgers, reconciliation) or a fintech handling real transactional volume
• Hands-on: writes and reviews code and handles incidents
• Experience working with external engineering partners or agencies
• Distributed systems in production: event-driven architectures, queues, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code
• Fluent English and Spanish; based in Buenos Aires, Bogotá or Miami (hybrid)
• Nice to have: first or second engineering leadership experience, PCI DSS audit experience, direct integrations with Latin American acquirers, Portuguese, prior startup or YC experience
