Human Rights Intern – Information & Referral Support

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking a motivated intern to support information and referral activities related to possible human rights violations. This 3‑6 month placement in Bogota offers hands‑on experience in data handling, coordination, and documentation within a leading UN entity.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, organize, and register information and communications addressed to the Office through various channels.
• Assist in collecting, systematizing, and tracking information on allegations, cases, and situations concerning potential human rights violations.
• Prepare internal notes based on gathered information.
• Refer incoming information promptly to relevant focal points, teams, or mechanisms according to internal procedures.
• Support coordination with teams to ensure effective information flow within the Office.
• Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s programme (law, international relations, political science, public administration or related fields preferred).
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
• Excellent written and spoken Spanish (required) and proficiency in English (preferred); French is a working language of the UN Secretariat.
• Collaborative, reliable, and able to work effectively in a team.
