Mechanical Engineer – Hydro & Dams

About the role

WSP Colombia is looking for a Mechanical Engineer specialized in hydro‑electric and dam projects to join its multidisciplinary team in Bogotá. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, analysis, assessment and implementation of mechanical systems for hydro‑electric facilities, dams and related water‑conveyance infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse mechanical systems for hydro‑electric plants, dams, pumping stations and water‑conveyance networks.
• Specify and support turbines, gates, penstocks, valves, hoists, piping, cooling and hydraulic equipment.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, equipment data sheets, reports and design documentation.
• Assess existing infrastructure and support rehabilitation, modernization and upgrade projects.
• Select equipment, perform technical evaluations and coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers and contractors.
• Participate in design reviews, constructability studies, commissioning, testing and operational assessments.
• Review vendor documentation, shop drawings and contractor submittals.
• Support dam‑safety programs, asset‑management initiatives and ensure compliance with standards and client requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Master’s degree is an asset).
• Professional Engineer designation or eligibility preferred.
• 6–9 years of experience in mechanical engineering for hydro‑electric, dam or major infrastructure projects.
• Experience across feasibility, detailed design, construction, commissioning and operation phases.
• Fluent in English and French for client and stakeholder communication.
